GNYM Code of Conduct

Welcome to Greater New York Mensa (GNYM)! We are thrilled you have joined us.

As in-person gatherings become more frequent, Greater New York Mensa would like to remind all members to respect common sense rules for public behavior, personal interaction, common courtesy, and respect for private property. Harassing, offensive, or generally unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated. This applies both at GNYM events as well as elsewhere, and event guests are expected to conduct themselves appropriately as well. All such actions may be immediately reported to the appropriate authorities, and we further reserve the right to report this to American Mensa.

Examples of unacceptable behavior include, but are not limited to, the following: unwelcome physical contact, verbal aggression, and other forms of harassment toward other attendees, presenters, vendors, or event staff; disruption of presentations, gameplay, or any other events organized by GNYM in the general event space at the event venue; violation of event space policies; intoxication, to the point of interfering with other members or becoming a hazard to yourself; tampering with food or drinks consumed by others; damage or destruction of GNYM-contracted venue space; and any unlawful activity.

If someone is causing you discomfort, please tell them and/or contact a member of the Board of Directors. If you need immediate and direct intervention for your personal safety, request assistance from security or call 911.

GNYM reserves the right to take any action deemed necessary and appropriate, including, but not limited to, immediate removal from an event in response to any incident of unacceptable behavior. Depending upon the severity of the incident, GNYM may take further action following the event.

We are happy you are here, and we wish all our members to feel likewise.
